Description
One of the two American persimmons most often recommended to somebody starting out, and the name is an abbreviation: Persimmon Ralph O. Kreider, for the man who supplied the seed George Slate grew it from.
Large, early and productive is an unusual combination in this species — American persimmon fruit is normally small, and the size gap against kaki is the main reason the native species stayed a wild-gathered fruit rather than an orchard one. A cultivar that closes some of that gap while keeping the hardiness is the whole argument for the American side of this file.
