The work

Soil microbiologist (PhD, University of Maryland) who began her career with Sara Wright at USDA-ARS Beltsville and spent 11 years at the ARS Northern Great Plains lab in Mandan, ND studying glomalin, grazing, and cover crops. Chief Scientist at Rodale Institute (2014-2018), where she oversaw the Farming Systems Trial. Founder of KRIS Systems Education & Consultation (relaunched Earth Day 2026) and research consultant with the Food Water Wellness Foundation in Alberta.

The same correction applies here as on Sara Wright’s record. The 2025 New Phytologist paper reclassified the assayed glomalin antigen as a polysaccharide rather than a glycoprotein, and Nichols has acknowledged the finding publicly. The aggregate-stability and soil-carbon work built on it is unaffected. Her affiliations have changed several times in recent years, so this record keeps them general.
