trademarked name — Sold as KSU-Atwood™. Kentucky State University publishes a list of licensed propagators for its trademarked pawpaw cultivars, so propagation for sale runs through that licence.

Description

The first cultivar released by the Kentucky State University pawpaw programme, in 2009. It is named for Rufus B. Atwood, president of Kentucky State College from 1929 to 1962, who led the effort to desegregate education in Kentucky in the 1940s.

Worth reading the rights line carefully rather than assuming a public university release is free to propagate. The mark is held, and KSU maintains a licensed-propagator list.
