Description
A three-species hybrid out of the Connecticut programme, raised from a 1937 cross of C. mollissima onto a C. crenata × C. dentata hybrid. It is named for the plantation it came from: Arthur Graves began crossing chestnuts on his own land at Hamden in 1930 and deeded the ground to the state in 1950, and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station has maintained it since.
With ‘Eaton’, it is what CAES suggests to someone planting only a few trees.
